the flea market & the vintage fair

the affordable vintage fair rolled up to the custard factory yesterday, which caused a storm (yes, just like the bad weather!). there was a massive turn out, resulting being one of the busiest days the flea market has seen in a long time! one of the funny things that kept happening was alot of people got confused and thought the flea market was the fair, as it turned out quite a few people didn't even know there was a flea market at the custard factory every weekend. also in mouldy loaf they had tie dye terrorism play instore :)

in the near future there are gonna be more days like this so keep your eyes peeled!

amsterdam really is an amazing place, so much to do and see, so many fashionable and beautiful people to drool over too. since i’m shy (and stoned at the time) and this a british fashion blog, i didn’t ask for photos off anyone. you can find what i'm talking about here- http://damstyle.blogspot.com/. i did on the other hand take pictures of everything else, so if you ever choose to go to the beautiful dam these are just some of the cool stuff to look out for.

when i was young, naive and enjoyed cross stitching the first time round, the words "flea market" painted visions of dirty marketplaces, with a load of rubbish being sold and animals running around everywhere. however, four years ago, i was proved wrong. the place that proved me wrong was the custard factory saturday flea. a treasure trove of all things vintage, i've watched the project grow into something truly great. numerous friends and acquaintances have held stalls there over the years, meaning that i've been lucky enough to spend many a saturday afternoon hanging out at the custard factory. i hate to be so positive, it isn't in my nature, but there's not a thing i dislike about the flea. there's nowhere more laidback or interesting to spend your weekend in birmingham city centre. the stallholders are passionate and helpful, and have pieces that are much more unique than can be found in birmingham's other vintage shops. with the reopening of vintage urban village, and the general stores there is no better time to visit, and we encourage you to: from 11-5 every saturday!

it's only natural that this would be the place we spent our saturday: kate running her stall, and me, well, sitting on the floor eating biscuits and being a general nuisance. by a stroke of luck (good or bad, you decide) kate and i were interviewed and photographed for an article in the times. enough about us, here are some snaps kate took...

describe yourself:
i have fights with charity shops on regular occasions and like to think i come out winning. most people think i'm insane. i think i agree.
what do you do?
i study history of art. on the side i sing, dance and sell my body: all unsuccessfully.
where's your all time favourite place to shop?
charity shops. i'm a cheapskate, and have spent many a year honing my bargain hunting skills. if i had the money i would also be buying a lot of alexander wang.
where's your favourite place in the world?
i like paris, but it is very very quiet and i am fairly loud, so it's not a good match. i think maybe the porch outside my mum's house, it's where i smoke and get ideas.
where are you going?
to bed before midnight most nights.

what music do you listen to?
almost everything. at the moment it's hip hop and rock cos it's summer time, along with some good ol' punk rock and cheesy pop. i like abit of dance too, mainly when i fancy a bit of a dance.
what do you do?
i roam around charity shops in the birmingham area, then sell the findings at the custard factory saturday flea. it's fun, a total nause when it comes to carrying bags and bags of stuff home though. but i wouldn't do it if i didn't enjoy it!
what's your favourite place in the world?
it's between amsterdam and my bed. amsterdam you get to see alot of tits and drugs, but you can probably get that in my bed too so it's a win-win!
what's your inspiration?
everything and everyone around me. i'm watching movies from the 70's, 80's and 90's right now and alot of inspiration comes from there honestly.
what's your all time favourite place to shop?
charity shops, save the children in sutton coldfield is lovely and have the best sales. the birmingham rag market too!

basically, after years of charity shopping and eyeing the beautiful people up, we've decided to document our findings. right now we enjoy nothing more than running up to (and possibly jumping on to) sexy people in birmingham. we hope you enjoy what we've found!
